Stephen Mathes is an Alternative Soul artist from Hertfordshire, England.
He writes about love, escapism and everything in between, songs that sit somewhere between soul, alternative and something harder to pin down. The records are patient and warm; the live show is not. Backed by a full band, his sets are built on energy and the sense that everyone in the room is in it together.
He has performed at Islington Assembly Hall, Camden Assembly and Pioneer Club, and has been building a catalogue since 2020 alongside the ongoing Stuck in My Head cover series. The Blue Rose EP opened it, followed by Lost City, the Brog0NE EP Ride or Die, then C'est La Vie, Life Is But a Dream and Destiny.
Destiny is the most recent single. Man on a Mission follows in September.
